About Root Radio
Root Radio's recognizable identity is that of a politically urgent, solidarity-driven platform born directly out of Istanbul's refugee and migrant-community crises — its editorial DNA is inseparable from activism: co-founders Ahmed Abdulatef Shiekh (a Syrian national in Istanbul) and Merve Öngen built it explicitly as "a safe space for these [migrant] communities to talk and to play music," and its existence functions, in Öngen's words, as "a direct message against nightlife" repression.
