About East Village Radio
East Village Radio is a genuine New York cultural institution with a two-act history: launched in 2003 by restaurateur Frank Prisinzano as an unlicensed "pirate" FM station broadcasting from a storefront studio at 1st Avenue and 1st Street, shut down by the FCC and reborn as an early internet-radio pioneer, running until 2015; it then sat dormant for nearly a decade before relaunching in summer 2024 with Brian Turner as Station Manager, restoring the same street-level, walk-in glass booth format. The strongest impression is of a station whose identity is built on radical open-door access — literally, a booth open to the sidewalk — paired with a real launchpad history (Mark Ronson's "Awesome Shit" show began there).
