WPRB reads as the platonic ideal of American freeform college radio: an 80-plus-year-old institution (broadcasting since 1940, on FM since 1955, the first commercial college FM station in the country) that has never professionalized its taste. A knowledgeable listener would come away struck by the combination of institutional permanence — the same 14,000-watt transmitter reaching Philadelphia, Trenton and New Brunswick — with genuinely unpredictable, DJ-authored programming that changes voice every few hours. Station manager Bobby Lussier described it as "the improbable combination of an immovable cultural institution defined by reliably unpredictable programming," which is close to the exact impression on air.
