About KGNU
KGNU reads editorially as a first-generation American community radio station: a volunteer-built, activist-rooted institution that has kept its 1978 "do our own thing" ethos intact for nearly five decades. A knowledgeable listener would come away struck less by any single sound than by the sheer plurality of voices — DJs who have hosted the same specialist show for twenty or thirty years sitting in the same schedule as brand-new volunteers, all unmistakably human and un-slick. It is a station defined by continuity of community rather than by a signature genre.
